He was a great co-worker and boy could he build cars! I see another 70 Monte out by my place in the cut-up configuration awaiting a soft top frame. What an inspiration ! God Bless you Pete !

I think GM really missed an opportunity for sales by not producing these. I really am fond of the 70 body style as I ordered my 70 SS454 in Sept of 69 and took possession in Oct of 69 and still own and drive it today. It’s kind of hard to believe I have owned my Monty for almost 43 years and still get the same exhilaration when I stomp it to the floor and light the tires up that I got when I was 16 with my first new car. My Monty might even be the first Monty Carlo SS454 ever made. As you probably know GM did not keep very good number records but I haven’t heard of another SS with an earlier date on the build sheet.
Again really good workmanship on your creation, I think the body lines of the 70 really lend themselves to a convertible look.
Bill

oh i almost forgot that the toggle switch on the dash was also for rear defog, hi/low. on other models i had seen.
also some thought it was an american model, “special edition” ,which included: fender skirts, chrome signal indicator lights on top of the front fenders, rear signal and brake indicators on the back deck.
under the hood was a 350ci- 300 hp. factory engine. the original air cleaner decal displayed this,
i was told it also had “star” high compression heads.
i do know it went like snot!! it was my bosses wife’s family car.she let me drive it on weekends when they went out of town.i fell in love right away!! i never knew what i had and to this day still kick my ASS!! anyway that just a short story to you.

I am a soldier and ive owned my 70 monte since high school. i grew up in el dorado ks near wichita and now im stationed down at fort hood. my monte is currently undergoing a tear down in my garage and i had planned on making it a convertible but didnt know where to start but your webpage gave me the missing info i needed. it does look factory. that is amazing. i love the first gen montes more than any other car. they had attitude with their chevelle looking front end, impala looking side but with better body lines, cadillac like tail lights, chevelle super sport interior etc. i love my 70 monte.
